Events Are Shaping Up For The Larry Fleeman Memorial At Gresham

Jefferson, GA (February 28, 2013) – Race season is officially in gear and Gresham Motorsports Park is ready to open the gates for the first GMP race, the Larry Fleeman Memorial 198, on March 30th.  There so much fun and excitement planned for the entire family and a night full of competitive races!
GMP is excited to offer a great deal to all teachers and students for the Larry Fleeman Memorial 198- a $15 ticket (must show school id when purchasing ticket).

Format For 2013 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race Elevates Need For Speed

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 26, 2013) – Reinforcing the need for speed and going all out for the win, NASCAR announced on Tuesday the format for the 2013 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race that will put added emphasis on finishing well in each of the five segments. The sport’s annual classic is set for Saturday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. (live on SPEED) at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

(February 22, 2013) Officials from the Golden Isles Speedway confirmed today that the 'Super Bowl of Racing' will return to Golden Isles Speedway in 2014 with three huge Dirt Late Model events! An open practice session will kick things off on February 5, 2014. A $5,000 top prize will be on the line in a 30-lap affair on February 6, while the February 7 50-lap showdown at GIS will pay $10,000 to the winner. The 'Super Bowl of Racing' finale will then take place on Saturday, February 8 with the winner of the 60-lapper receiving a cool $12,000. Keep your eyes peeled to the website for ticket prices, starting times, etc.

Tracy is a second generation driver from East Dublin, Ga., retiring in 2009 to assist his nephew Tyler Mimbs with his racing team. Tracy's Father/Tyler's Grandfather Donnie Hugh Mimbs raced in the first race at 441 in 1967.

BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 21, 2013 – Scott Bloomquist believed he had a winning car after capturing a World of Outlaws Late Model Series heat race on Thursday night during the 42nd UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway.

The Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer from Mooresburg, Tenn., then proved it in the 50-lap A-Main, charging by race-long pacesetter Eric Wells of Hazard, Ky., for the lead on lap 37 and pulling away to win the first WoO LMS event of the mid-winter motorsports extravaganza outside Daytona Beach.

Somewhere Racing Debuts At Valdosta Motor Speedway

  The Somewhere Racing Team of Dusty Mauldin and Brandon Reynolds hit the track for the first time this weekend at Jimmy Parkers VMS. It was alot of fun and when you watch this videos of the pits and on kart cameras it will surely make your want a kart. Its economical and brings the whole family together.

BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 18, 2013 - Ken Schrader charged from 10th to victory in the Gator Championship, denying Austin Dillon by a nose at the checkered flag Monday night during the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway Park.

Schrader swept into the lead midway through the 30-lap, $5,000-to-win showcase for DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, but had his hands full with Dillon charging off the final corner to the finish.

BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 17, 2013 - Matt Westfall blazed a fast path to victory lane and earned the $700 winner's check Sunday night during the second Gator Championship qualifier in the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway Park.

"We had a good evening, I qualified good enough to put it on the front row," said Westfall, of Pleasant Hill, Ohio. "The track was fast tonight and difficult to pass. Reminded me of Eldora Speedway where we usually run."

Pittman earns overall title at UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit

BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 17, 2013 - There was at least one happy dude parked in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Victory Lane on a frigid Sunday night.

It was the winningest dude in Volusia Speedway Park history, 'The Dude' - Danny Lasoski - who picked up his first win of the season and 20th career at the half mile to conclude the sprint car week at the 42nd annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

"I really like this place," he said wearing a big grin.

OCALA, FL – Feb. 16, 2013 – Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., continued his mastery of Bubba Raceway Park, winning Saturday night’s 50-lap Bubba Army Late Model Winter Nationals A-Main in dramatic fashion.

The defending World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion slipped his Cornett-powered Rocket car past Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., for the lead coming to the white flag, propelling him to his second Winter Nationals triumph in as many evenings. The $10,150 victory was his fifth in seven career starts over the past four years at the three-eighths-mile, D-shaped oval.

BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 16, 2013 - Terry McCarl sure loves to celebrate.
Heck, he'd probably run down the frontstretch in his underwear like Ricky Bobby if given the time. The weather might have had something to do with it on Saturday night, when McCarl did his best in Victory Lane to pump up the nearly sold out crowd amid 25 mile per hour wind gusts and temperatures dipping into the 40s at Volusia Speedway Park.

McCarl even managed to plant one on World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series announcer Johnny Gibson to conclude the postrace interview after McCarl's win at the 42nd annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 16, 2013 - Jacob Poel made his first visit to the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment a memorable one by capturing the Gator Championship qualifier Saturday night at Volusia Speedway Park.

"We just swapped a motor out yesterday, after having one problem after another," said Poel, of Spring Lake, Mich. "I ran third in the heat and I don't know where we started in that feature but the car was just absolutely perfect. I don't know really what else to say. It was an amazing feeling. I'm just glad to be able to come down here with all the people that have supported me and got me here."

He pulled away following a deciding lap-33 restart, winning by 1.410 seconds over Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., in the Sweeteners Plus Warrior.

BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 15, 2013 - There were hugs, smiles and high fives. Then, a hop onto the back of his car, where Daryn Pittman let out a yell that reached the edges of Volusia County as the confetti blanketed his new ride.

An extremely happy Pittman gave his NASCAR-star boss, Kasey Kahne, a grin as they celebrated on the frontstretch at Volusia Speedway Park Friday night following Pittman's World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series season-opening victory in front of packed grandstands.

Defending Gator Champion Holds off Charging Florida Native Kyle Bronson to Claim Modified Money 
 
BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 15, 2013 - Nick Hoffman inherited the lead after Matt Cooper of McKenzie, Tenn., had mechanical issues on lap 11, and drove to his first win of the 2013 UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment on Friday night at Volusia Speedway Park.
"I got a pretty good draw and I'm not usually good at the draw deal, said Hoffman, of Mooresville, N.C. "Cooper got the jump on me and he was running right through the middle, but once I found the cushion I knew we'd be in pretty good shape. It was just hard to keep control of it and hit your marks every lap."
Hoffman, who drew the pole position for the 20-lap main event, battled side-by-side with Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., for the victory with Bronson finishing second. Bronson started 10th and charged to third in only four laps. Bronson also finished as the runner-up to Rodney Sanders on Tuesday's opening night of the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals.

Heavy Rain Forces Volusia to Cancel Wednesday's UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Action

Ticket value can be exchanged for another day at event; Sprint Cars, UMP Modifieds back on track Thursday
BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 13, 2013 - Heavy rain moving across central Florida forced track and series officials to cancel Wednesday night's UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment action at Volusia Speedway Park.
Fans who purchased a ticket for Wednesday night's races can exchange its value for another ticket during the remaining 10 days of the event.
The action picks back up on Thursday night at Volusia with UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars and DIRTcar UMP Modifieds. Beginning Friday, the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars will join the UMP Modifieds. On Monday, DIRTcar Late Models begin competing at Volusia followed by Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds and World of Outlaws Late Models.

St. Tammany Raceway Signs Up For Two NeSmith Racing Divisions In 2013

CARTERSVILLE, GA – St. Tammany Raceway in Hickory, LA has signed on for the 2013 season with the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series and the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division.  Drivers in both Divisions will be eligible to compete for both National point funds and weekly point funds.

St. Tammany Raceway has operated under several different names through the years, and has been sanctioned by the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series in the past.  The track returns to life under a new promoter for 2013, Mickey Phillips.

Texan holds off Kyle Bronson, NASCAR heavyweights to earn first ever Gator trophy 

BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 12, 2013 - Rodney Sanders dominated the opening night of the 42nd Annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment Tuesday night at Volusia Speedway Park.
"We were pretty good but I think we have to get it a little better, at the end it was kind of fading away," said Sanders, of Happy, Texas. "We went out on soft tires so we could get a start and hopefully stay up front after that. First time ever here it feels good to win one because I know they're tough here. There are a lot of good cars."
Sanders, who earned his fifth victory of 2013, led 19 of the 20 laps. After losing the lead to Bronson on lap 16, Sanders wasted little time moving back to the front. Bronson, of Brandon, Fla., held on to finish second.

Deep Dixie Award Winners


 
  On the night of January 26th at North Florida Speedway, Deep Dixie Racing presented awards out to some very deserving drivers. Mark Whitener was awarded the Driver of the Year Fan Vote and Overall Driver of the Year award. Jimmy Sharpe Jr. was awarded the Humanitarian Award and since he was unable to make it Kevin Durden accepted on his behalf. Ronnie Newsome was also presented with an award as the Young Gun of the Year award. Southern Super Series Adds Money to Races & Pole Winners

The hype surrounding the inaugural season of the Southern Super Series is growing everyday and now so too is the purse for each of the 125-lap races on the 2013 schedule.

Officials from the series announced today that each of the 14 regular distance races will now pay $5,000. That is a $1,000 jump from what was originally announced. In addition, at all events, the fast-qualifier for each race will receive an additional $500. The award is supported by a variety of engine builders, including Hamner Racing Engines of Alabama, McGunegill Engine Performance of Indiana, Progressive Racing Engines of Florida and RW Racing Engines of Tennessee.
